The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) managed to hold above the 10,000 level as it advanced another 47.08 points to close at 10,062.94.
The local equities market continue its consolidation above the 2900 level. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) opened at its high and then continued an erratic decline to close near its low. Select thirdliner stocks were actively traded and were the focus of punter interest.

WallStreet had a huge rally and advanced nearly one and a half percent and closed at a new year high. The DJIA last closed above the key 10,000 level last Oct. 7, 2008. It has now advanced around 54.80% from its low of 6469.95 last March 6, 2009.
The local equities market opened strong because of the euphoric rally in WallStreet. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) however gave back most of its early gains as investors are still concerned of the effects of the typhoons that hit the country in the recent weeks.
