Market matters:
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) says Inflation for June higher on back of rising tuition fees and oil prices.
The Philippine government will resume the offering of Treasury bills in order to reign in the widening budget gap deficit because of lower collections in the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and Bureau of Customs in the first half of the year.

The day's market - June 29, 2007

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average closed flat. It was down by just 5.45 points to end at 13422.28. Lack of strong and convincing leads had trading in the Philippine stock market relatively uneventful. Momentum from yesterday's advance; and investor expectations of a window dressing, just carried the market to post modest gains.

Big drop in WallStreet induces a correction in the PSE - June 21,2007

Market Comments

BusinessWorld June 21, 2007

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 146.00 (-1.07%) points overnight to end at 13489.42. This was taken as a cue by the local equities market to take a breather after its recent charge to new all time high levels.

PSEI previous close - 3718.88 - June 20, 2007

The market was initially trying to hold above the 3,700 level as recent large drops in the US markets did not shatter investors confidence in the Philippine stock market. But coming from a strong run up to new all time high levels, caution was the order of the day as a consolidation was also needed.

For the first five minutes, there was still no trade in PLDT which closed yesterday at PhP 2685. When PLDT opened its trading with a transaction at PhP 2600, the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) immediately dropped and it induced a selldown.

9:37---------38.52-------------3680.36

The big price drop in PLDT had the market test a support at 3,680. But the sudden steep decline unnerved investors and selling accelerated.

The local equities market has lost most of its momentum as the day's gains has been limited and not all sectors were on the upside today. If the market fails to break through the 3,700 level, a correction (and continuation of the reversal observed in the last half hour of the day's trading); may follow and the PSEi will be in search of a solid support level to sustain its current uptrend.

The days' market - June 13, 2007

Quotes from an interview regarding comments / observations on yesterday's market rally published in today's papers-

...................."Coming off previous big losses, the rally was expected after the market took a breather last week".........

The Philippine Star and The Philippine Daily Inquirer - June 13, 2007

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell hard overnight as it lost 129.95 points to close at 13,295.01. A big decline in WallStreet is hard to ignore and local investors immediately turn cautious. Momentum from yesterday's strong rally was effectively nipped at the bud and a correction unfolded.

Considering the market kept most of the day's gains, momentum would most likely test the 3,580-3,600 resistance (if the US markets continue to hold their ground tonight). A consolidation may ensue if the resistance is not breached. Support remains at the 3,500-3,520 levels.

Investors and punters continue to turn their attention to the second- and third-liner stocks as trading in these lesser known issues remain brisk.
