WallStreet was lower as home sales were at 10-year lows sparking a new round of fears that the housing slump is deepening. The selldown also sparked a steep correction from its recent runup from the 10900 level to 11600. The DJIA closed near its low and was down by almost 2 1/2%.

The local equities market took its cue from the drop in WallStreet together with the rest of the Asian region. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) immediately opened lower and tested the 2500 level as a support.

After the opening fall, the market was able to immediately consolidate and selling pressure eased off. The PSEi remained unchanged for more than 10 minutes and investor jitters subsided.

The market then goes above the 2500 level and holds until the end of the trading session.
