The DJIA had a strong rally in the late afternoon session to close near its high and just below the 9000 level.

The local equities market opened strong because of the big rally in WallStreet. After the initial surge, the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) however gave back most of its gains but managed to hold above the 1900 level.
