The local equities market started slow but soon gained ground to mount a strong advance. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) broke well-above the 1800 level and closed near its high.

The DST (Documentary Stamp Tax) on Secondary Trading of Shares is again collected starting today after being suspended for the past five years (since March 20, 2004) when Republic Act (RA) 9243 took effect.
