The local equities market opened flat today. It was just going in and out of positive territory in the first half hour of trading. But after another half-hour, selling pressure began mount and the market heads lower. The slow decline persisted until the end of the trading session and the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) closed near its low.
PSEi previous close - 1950.13 (January 16)
open: 1950.40 (+0.27)
high: 1954.41 (+4.28)
low: 1922.25 (-27.88)
close: 1922.99 (-27.14 or -1.39%)
Value turnover: PhP 908 mn
Cross transactions: PhP 493 mn
The PSEi partially closes the chart gap at the 1876.44-1925.07 levels left open last December 26-January 5. Value turnover fails to hurdle the billion peso mark as investors wait for clearer signals in the market.
