WallStreet opened strong and tested the 9200 level. The DJIA was up by more than 140 points at one point but gave back some of its gains to end up higher by less than 1%.

The advance in WallStreet gave the local equities market another boost. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) touched another new 13-month high but it also gave back some of its gains to close below the 2800 level.
