WallStreet had a huge rally and rose more than 200 points. The DJIA breached above the 10,000 level and closed near its high.

The local equities market was higher in early trade because of the big rise in WallStreet. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) however gave back its early gains and ended in negative territory. Some investors sold Meralco (MER) on news (of the share sale to the Metro Pacific Group by the Lopez Group) and this dragged the market down.
