For most of the early part of the trading day, the DJIA moved just below the 8000 level. A strong finishing kick had it advance nearly 2.0% and close near its high.

With the big advance in WallStreet, the local equites market had a strong opening. Weak volumes however, prevented it from advancing further and the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) just drifted sideways for the rest of the trading day.
