WallStreet gave back most of the previous day's gains and staying above the 8000 level remains to be a key challenge.

The local equities market started flat. But a rally was led by PLDT and by mid-session, confidence has built up and spread across-the-board. The Philippine Stock Echange Index (PSEi) closed near its high just below the 1900 level.
