WalStreet opened weak and was down more than 100 points early in the trading day. A recovery by the mid-session had the DJIA go above the 8000 level and up more than 150 points at one point.

The local equities market opened sharply higher and continued its advance from yesterday. With sentiment further boosted by the rebound overnight in the US markets and the gains in the other asian equities markets; the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi)advanced by around 2.5% for the second straight day. It closed well above the 1900 level and value turnover also improved.
