WallStreet opened lower and the DJIA was down more than 150 points by mid-session. It however recovered in the latter half of the trading day and was able to limit its losses to keep near the 8000 level.
The local equities market came back strong as it resumed trading after the long weekend. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) managed to advance more than 1.0% even if asian markets were down.
