After trading sideways for more than half of the trading day, the DJIA fell steeply in the afternoon session to close near its low.

The local equities market also opened lower because of the steep drop in WallStreet. It however again showed its resilience as the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) even broke into positive territory and closed with very minimal losses.
