The DJIA was down nearly one and a half percent as it reacts to te crisis in Dubai. It however closes off its day's low in the shortened trading day.

The Philippine Stock Market - November 27, 2009

WallSreet was closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

European stocks were down the most in 7 months as Dubai World seeks to delay payment of its $59 bn loans. Dubai World is an investment company that manages and supervises a portfolio of businesses and projects for the Dubai Government.
Because of this new threat to the financial systems and the uncertainty of its extent; the local equities markets immediately fell steeply. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) however was able to recover some of its losses. Investors await the reaction in WallStreet tonight and on Monday. (The Philippine Stock Market will resume trading on Tuesday.)

Some investors sold Meralco (MER) on news (of the share sale to the Metro Pacific Group by the Lopez Group) and this dragged the market down.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) again closed higher by 56.61 points last night to end at 9683.41. It is currently at its highest levels since Oct. 8, 2008.

The local equities market opened higher and tried to go above the 2800 level. It however failed to hold its ground and sentiment soon reversed. The Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) ended lower again today on lighter value turnover, even as other asian equities markets were up.
